STAND BESIDE OR STEP ASIDE SPOILER: Click to show Name: Monster Hunter: Level Four Rank: C Post Limit: 3 Objective: Fiore is filled with many, many different kinds of monsters the inhabit the land. Unfortunately, they have been causing a lot of interference in everyday life, so their numbers need to be thinned. Head to Clover and deal with the tribe of Lizardmen that have been invading from the surrounding mountains. Reward: 300 Exp: 35 The weather in Clover was fantastic. The bright sun was out, casting its warm rays onto all those person's who might be outside. However, Sora Vernian was not outside. In way he was, but because the only way to reach Clover is by the rail way, he was in a train. This was not a very good thing, because Sora was leaning against the wall, trying to stick his head as far outside of the vehicle that he could. The steady motion was making him sick, almost immobile. His face had turned a very pale color. Most of his breathing was going through is nose, because he dared not open his mouth in fear of throwing up. Every bump of the tracks would send him just a bit further out of his mind. The only thing he could focus on was how his stomach was feeling. The queasiness that he felt was almost overwhelming. When the train finally stopped moving, he was stuck lying across his seat, trying to recuperate. The benefit of his recuperation at this station was that it was the end of the line. No other cities or towns were past it, so he could afford to move slowly in getting off, after all, he didn't have his partner with him to force him around. It took about five minutes for him to regain his normal composure. The black coated wizard stood up, letting his appendages swing around as he started to walk towards the door to the carriage. Upon reaching it, he turned the knob and pulled the door in, opening a passage for his escape from the metal beast. Once he was outside, Sora put a hand up to shade his eyes from the bright rays that were blinding him. "So this is Clover," he muttered while looking down at the empty station before him. One could hardly call the place a station. It was only a slab of brick covered by a roof to cover those who were waiting for the train. Past it were the buildings that were hidden within the cover of trees. There was a small enclosure in the center of the "station" that attracted Sora's attention. That was the ticket station where there would surely be an attendant that could help him. With an objective in sight, the Dragon Slayer tucked his hands into his pockets and began his transition from a vehicle to the solid sturdy ground. His light footsteps barely made a sound, but when his right foot came down off the steps, one could hear the sigh of satisfaction come from Sora. His right foot was on the ground, the solid ground, this gave a great reassurance to him as he continued to walk at a faster pace towards his target. STAND BESIDE OR STEP ASIDE The ticket station did indeed have a person, and a rather pretty one at that. A girl who was dressed in the rail line uniform was sitting on a chair behind the counter that had four lacrima orbs positioned at each corner. At the wizard's appearance she looked up from her work and smiled. "Welcome to Fiore Railroads, the next train that is departing will leave in one hour!" she enthusiastically announced in the same way that she did to all customers. Sora leaned onto the counter with his left arm and reached into his jacket with his right hand. He pulled out a piece of paper that he had folded four times and held it between his index and middle fingers. Once it had left the confines of his jacket, he placed it down on the counter, then slid it towards the girl. The four lacrima had activated as he pushed the paper towards her. His hand hit a barrier that prevented him from reaching inside the kiosk. "I'm sorry, but we're not allowed to let anyone reach into our kiosks, it is for security reasons," the girl stated as Sora let go of the paper. She then pulled the paper towards her and opened it up. The paper was sturdy and upon being opened, read: Help Wanted: There are lizardmen attacking citizens of our village, we will pay a wizard 300 Jewels to eradicate them. ~Mayor of Clover The girl read the flyer, then looked up at Sora. He had a smile on his face as he looked at her. "If you could point me in the direction of the creatures, I would kindly appreciate it," he said, flashing his teeth at her. In an instant she had stood up and stuck her arm through the barrier of the lacrima. "If you go south of here, you'll come to an open field where they like to rest. There are rocks there that they rest on in sunny weather." "Thanks,' Sora responded, before he went away, he looked back at her, 'I'll be needing that paper back." The girl then handed the paper back to him. With it in his possession he stuffed it back inside his pocket and turned towards the field where the lizardmen would supposedly be. As he started to walk away he stuck his hands into his pockets, and looked over his shoulder, "When I come back, your town's problem will be over," he said coolly. STAND BESIDE OR STEP ASIDE The path to where the lizardmen was a very easy one to find. As soon as he had lost sight of the town behind him, Sora had picked up on the smell of the creatures. To his nose they reeked. He could smell the decaying bacteria on their teeth. The smell was almost unbearable, but he kept his senses up, trying to ignore the smell and focus more on his sight and hearing. He had been following the path through a bunch of trees and up a few steep cliffs. When he finally arrived at the field that he had been directed too, he found what he was looking for. Sora stood in such a place that allowed him to look down onto field and see the four creatures clearly. Three of them were lying on their stomachs, allowing their dark green scales to bee seen. A row of black spikes went down their backs. Each one was a brighter color as blood was flowing through them, taking in the sun's heat. Each one was about as tall as a human, but had scales covering their body. The final lizardman was lying in the center atop a large central stone. It's back was different from the others as it had a number of fibers put together tor form a mane. "That must be the alpha of the tribe," Sora concluded, grabbing his chin with his thumb and index finger. "I might as well get this job done." The Dragon Slayer proceeded to walk down the patch towards the creatures. His hands were in his pockets because he knew that the creatures were trying to warm up their blood. They would be slow moving and there is no way they would be able to sense his approach. The air still reeked of their smell. When Sora came to the field, he was surprised by the fact that none of the lizardmen were in their positions. "Where the hell did they go?' he questioned the empty field. He continued walking into the field, hoping that he might find something that could lead him to them. Like a flash of lightning Sora saw a green creature charging him from the corner of his eye. Before he could fully react the creature had punched him in the face with the powerfully muscled arm it had. The blow knocked Sora off his feet. While falling backwards he kicked up with his legs, doing a flip as he landed a few feet back. "Ohhhhh, so that's where ya went." The single lizardman started charging him again. STAND BESIDE OR STEP ASIDE A torrent of gray wind spewed from Sora's open mouth towards the lizard. The Roar of the Wind Dragon engulfed the creature. Sora's eyes opened in excitement as he let out a victorious cheer. "Chyaa! Alright!" His excitement was brief, for through the shattered scales of the creature, it came charging at him. The same creature which had attacked him. It through another punch at Sora, hitting him in the face and sending back another few steps. Sora stared at the creature, getting an annoyed look on his face. "I might have to get serious now," he said while throwing off his coat, revealing the Heart Kreuz Armor he always wore. While saying this, shock filled his eyes while the creature opened its mouth. He had expected to hear a snarl, but instead, he saw a sphere of wind forming. Within a second of the sphere forming, it launched a tornado of wind straight at the Dragon Slayer. Sora could tell that this tornado was a mimicked trick of his own attack. His ember eyes became narrow as he stared at the funnel of wind. Upon impact, Sora opened his mouth and inhaled the wind attack. His canines pierced the magic that had just become solid in form. While the Dragon Slayer ate it he glared at the lizardman. "Did you really think that I you could just mimic my magic to defeat me? I'm a Dragon Slayer, it'll take more than that to defeat me," he chirped. With that he formed wind around his right fist. He charged the creature, raising the wind imbued fist behind him. A trail of gray wind was left in his path as he quickly got close to the creature. "Rage of the Wind Dragon!" he cast, letting his right fist connect with the creature. This first attack shattered some of the scales, and before the lizardman could make any move, Sora slammed his head into its nostrils. This knocked it back and allowed Sora to deliver the final move of the technique, kicking the creature in the side, throwing it to the ground. He stood over the body and smiled. "That's one down." As he said this, two other one's rushed him from the either side. The one on his right threw a punch which Sora ducked under, sliding around on the ground. The one that was charging him from his right tried crushing him with a grapple, but Sora jumped up and kicked himself further into the air by stepping on the lizardman's shoulder. As he landed, he felt another creature hit him from behind, knocking him down into the ground. Mana: 15/20 (Lizardman's mimic attack is feeble, so Sora regains 5 mana from eating it). STAND BESIDE OR STEP ASIDE Sora tasted the dirt in his mouth as he was pressed into it. He felt the hand of another creature pushing him down, as to force him to stay in that position. His teeth gritted together as he turned his head to let him see what it was that had so much power. The alpha lizardman was leaning over him. Saliva dripped down and was landing on his neck. The Dragon Slayer placed his arms under his body and tried to push up. All his effort was for nothing, because this alpha was much stronger than he was. "Get off me..." he growled as he again attempted to push himself up. A snarl was escaping him as he was able to push himself just about a foot off the ground. A smile came across his face as he did this. There was no way he was going to let himself be finished here, not when he had a lot more to do. Gray wind began to wrap around his arms as he held himself in position. He had given himself just enough height to move his arms to create a flash of wind. "Wing Attack of the Wind Dragon!" Sora released his body while throwing his arms out, creating a burst of wind in the entire area around himself. Using the wind as a leverage, he pushed himself up, breaking free of the alpha lizardman. Back on his feet Sora was going to hold his ground. He was gasping for air while he wiped his mouth with his left fist. "I'll demolish you..." he muttered, creating two balls of wind around his fists. Before him stood the three lizardmen, all standing close to one another. "Combine the raging winds of my right hand and the raging winds of my left hand, Gust of the Wind Dragon!" The Dragon Slayer threw his hands together and built up a larger sphere in front of him. He launched the ball of wind at the group of lizardmen. STAND BESIDE OR STEP ASIDE The Gust of the Wind Dragon exploded with tremendous force, knocking back all of the lizardmen. The two regular creatures had been tossed back into a rock with enough force to stop them from getting back up again. All that was left was the alpha lizardman. Sora did not even stop to take a break as he watched the dirt get kicked up into a cloud before his very eyes. As the dust died down Sora built up his magic power again. The power was coursing through is body, making him feel rejuvenated. "Secret Dragon Slayer Art: Wuthering Skies Decimated Fangs!" Sora swung his right arm across his body and spun around, bringing his left arm out and threw a second blade of wind. On the second turn he kept his motion going and kicked with his right foot, and spun again and ended with a backwards kick with his left foot sending off the fourth blade. After he finished that motion, he pushed himself up into the air and on his way back down, threw off the final two crossed blades as he brought his arms down diagonally. The dust had started to finally settle by the time the attack had been launched and once it did, the alpha lizardman could only look in terror as the secret art came tumbling towards him. The impact was disastrous as it slammed the leader as well as his two subordinates into the wall again with more than enough force to insure that the creatures would not move again. The Dragon Slayer stood up from his final crouched position. A wind had started blowing in the area that let started to toss around his hair and black sash. The brightness had left Sora's eyes, but he wasn't going to let himself just fall down this time. He was going to see how long he could go without magic, surely he was strong enough to do a simple task like that. "Another mission down..." he muttered as he started stumbling on his way back down the path he had taken to get there. He grabbed his coat on the way to leave the rocky field.
