The smell of salt entered Cecilia's nostrils as she walked along the boardwalk. She felt hot under the sun as its rays pounded against her. There was no cover from the bright object that would always be hanging in the sky somewhere. The main reason she probably felt hot was because of the uniform that she was wearing. Since she was on official business, she was wearing her Rune Knight uniform, marking her as a government official. Cecilia held her head up and closed her eyes every now and then as she would listen for the crashing of waves onto the shoreline that was not that far from where she was standing.
When she was not directing her attention to the waves, she was looking around, trying to figure out where she was in the port city. She was looking for a building with a sign that would read: Edmund's Pharmacy. That was where she was headed for the job she was given by her supervisor. She was to report to this pharmacy and take care of an old man that the pharmacist Edmund needed help with.
Cecilia had a skip in her step as she looked around. She was happy, this was her first mission and she was finally able to represent the Rune Knights that she had admired for so long. The Rune Knight came to a stop once her blue eyes had spotted the sign she was looking for. The building looked to be in good shape, probably because the owner was making a fairly decent amount of money to get his building to have a good upkeep. Now that she knew where she was going, the girl rushed across the street, dodging people, and made her way to the front door.
As she stood there, before she knocked, she stood straight up and brushed off her uniform, trying to make herself professional. Alright Cecilia, you can do this! she told herself while raising her right hand to knock the door. She rapped her knuckles on the door and waited for a response.

The girl in her white and red Rune Knight uniform did not have to wait long, as the door was opened within a minute of her knocking. All the while, that single minute felt like eternity for the girl who was nervous about her first job. When she saw the door open, before she even processed the man before her she spoke up, "I'm Cecilia Nightingale a Rune Knight of the Fiore Branch!" she said cheerfully, throwing out a smile.
The man stood before her and returned her smile. "Thanks for coming, I'm Edmund, please come inside," Edmund said as he stepped back and motioned for Cecilia to enter.
The Rune Knight stepped through the door and passed the pharmacist. "Where is the patient you need help caring for?" she asked while clasping her hands behind her back. Her eyes were darting around the room, trying to find something there that could give her any hints about this citizen she was helping. There was nothing out of the ordinary that took her attention, so she just ignored anything that was wrong.
"The patient is upstairs, his name is Crow, and business is going to start soon so I was hoping that someone could care for him while I run the shop down here," Edmund explained as he walked past the Rune Knight and entered what appeared to be the main area for people to come and request their medicinal needs. The rest of the room was devoted to a resting area for anyone who was waiting.
"So, where are the stairs, I'll get started right away? Cecilia questioned, looking directly at the pharmacist.
"They are right through that door,' the pharmacist pointed out,'however, I should warn you that the man does not like being treated, and he can get very violent."
Cecilia got a worried look on her face, but she quickly threw it off by putting on a smile. "Don't worry, I can handle myself!" she called back after she turned away and headed to the staircase.

Cecilia walked towards the door that held the staircase behind it. With each step she took there was a creak in the floorboards, giving her an eerie feeling of what was to come. Stop being a child, you can do this Cecilia, she thought as she reached forward and pulled open the door to the stairs. Her anxiety did not end there as she started walking up the stairs, only to have more creaking occur.
At the top of the staircase there was an empty hall with four doors. As Cecilia passed the doors she noticed that there were signs above them, directing the attention of any person who walked by. The two doors on the left were marked as being personal, probably belonging to the pharmacist. The two doors on the right were marked for patients, however only one of the doors was closed. He's probably in there, she told herself while reaching for the knob. As she began to turn it, she could already hear noise coming from within the room.
She finished turning the knob and opened the door, pushing it in. Her first reaction was not one she was expecting, because before she could introduce herself, the man in the bed began speaking. "Who the hell are you? Some young whipper snapper, get the hell outta my room! I don't need you in here!"
Cecilia took a step back in shock. She should have taken Edmund more seriously when he spoke about the man having a temper. Looks like I will have to be a bit strict, she thought while clenching her fists together on either side of her. "I'm here to take care of you, my name is..." she tried to say before she was cut off.
"I don't care who you are, get the hell outta here, I don't need no one takin' care of me!"
"Shut up you old man!' Cecilia snapped as she put her hands on her hips, 'I'm Cecilia and I'm here to take care of you. You will listen to me and do as I say while I follow the instructions given to me by Edmund."
The man in the bed suddenly became quiet as the girl spoke to him. He laid there quietly and nodded to show that he understood what Cecilia was saying. "Good,' Cecilia said while she started walking further into the room,'let's get started then."

Cecilia walked up to the man who was now going to obey whatever she asked him to do. Sometimes that was all she needed in order to get people to listen to her. By raising her voice or acting strict she would get people to know she was serious. Of course, whenever a woman got serious, most men would be smart enough to quiet down and listen to whatever was going to be said.
"So, what is Edmund treating you for anyway?" Cecilia asked while she approached Crow. When she reached him she just stood there, waiting for a response. "I got a fever and since I live alone, there was no way I could treat myself when I was as sick as I was," he answered.
Cecilia then turned around, but looked over her shoulder at the man. "I'll be right back, I need to go get a few things," she said before walking away and entering the hallway. She quickly went down the stairs and went back to the main room where Edmund was. "Where can I get supplies to treat a fever? she asked while coming up behind the pharmacist.
"You can get a bowl and wash cloth from that room, and here are some herbs you can add to hot water to make a tea for him to drink. Get him to drink as much as you can. The tea will make him sleepy, but his fever should be gone within three hours," Edmund answered while handing a small bowl of crushed herbs to the Rune Knight.
"Thanks!" Cecilia smiled as she took the bowl and entered what appeared to be the man's kitchen. Inside she found a large bowl and put it under the sink and let cool water flow into it. Once it was full she dropped a wash cloth into it. She looked over to where she saw the stove was, and saw a kettle sitting atop it. She pulled it off its resting place and filled it with water and then placed it back on the stove. She then turned a knob, causing the fire lacrima underneath the kettle to activate, causing a red magic circle to appear and it began heating the kettle.
Cecilia picked up the bowl with the cloth and left the kitchen, she planned to come back and finish making the tea after she got the elderly man under control upstairs. "I'll be right back down," she called as she headed upstairs.

After running up the stairs again, Cecilia reached Crow's room and there she began preparations for his treatment to start. The old man had already started resting himself against the pillow of his bed, trying to sit up straight. When Cecilia saw this she immediately put the bowl of cold water down on the bedside table. "We need to get you lying straight down," Cecilia said as she helped Crow lay down flat.
Once he was down she reached into the bowl and pulled out the wash cloth. There she rung it out by twisting it up as to get rid of all the excess water. As she finished that task, she then folded the cloth into a rectangular shape and placed it on the older man's forehead. "There, now rest just like that and I'll be right back," she said as she again turned away from the old man and headed back down the stairs to the kitchen.
Upon reaching this floor she went straight to the kitchen, already hearing the whistling if the tea kettle. She hurried into the room and turned the switch to deactivate the fire lacrima, immediately silencing the boiling water. She grabbed the handle of the kettle and ignored the heat while she poured it into a cup. Once the cup had been filled to its limit, Cecilia pulled up the small bowl of herbs. She poured them into the cup and saw the small green leaves slowly sink into the water. She let the heat break the leaves down and change the color of the liquid as the herbs gave their properties over to the water.
With this done, Cecilia picked the cup up and carried it up the stairs. She hurried back into the old man's room and set the tea on the side table next to the water bowl. "Alright, let me just help you sit up, and if you drink this cup of tea, then you can go to sleep, and when you wake up, you'll be feeling better and the fever will be gone," Cecilia stated while helping the man sit up.
After getting him up, Cecilia lifted the tea to her mouth and blew on it trying to cool it down. "Here you go," she muttered while she brought the tea to the man's lips and poured some into his mouth. This went on until the mug was empty. When it was empty, Cecilia lowered the man back into the bed and he fell asleep almost instantly.
Cecilia looked at the sleeping man and slowly walked out of the room, trying to be as quiet as she could. Once she was out, she started walking out of the hallway and down the stairs to the pharmacist. When she reached him, she spoke, "the patient is asleep so he should be cured when he wakes up like you said, so would you consider this job done?"
Edmund looked at her and nodded, letting her know that her job was done and that she had completed it successfully.
