Durriken twitched in a way that he rarely did and if Atlas knew half of what Riley did he would know to back up a few steps. Durriken walked slowly but with purpose up to Yoichi and attempt to punch him firmly in the gut for what he said.
"You do not get to preach to me about loss. You lost a single person; I lost 90% of my entire race. The remainder can barely be described as gypsy anymore being forced to conform to local customs. I have just filled the void in my heart the government created by joining and now leading Griffin Wing. A traditional gypsy family or tribe held fifty or more members, before I came here we had two, my mother and myself. For a group of people that placed so much importance on family that it was literally burned into our blood by magic, that was nearly unbearable."
People often forgot that Durriken was a gypsy, an old magical tribe that wondered the world. They would settle down for a year or so and then move on to green pastures. He looked human, and technically was, but there were unique properties to his blood, to all gypsy blood that made him unique and rare. That was also why his tan never left him, it wasn't a tan, it was his natural skin tone, another trait that identified him as a gypsy.
There used to be ten or so tribes or gypsy long ago. But once the World Government was set up, they came at odds with the gypsy because of their nomadic nature. Durriken suspected it was also because of the magic within their blood that made the government fear them. Some tribes resisted and were eventually wiped off the map, the few that conformed and settled down soon found themselves getting sick and dying, unable to live without the connection to the world they gained through constant movement. The only way his mother was able to survive was because of the circus, it traveled enough to let her still feel like a gypsy while hiding under the radar of the government.
"Furthermore, you act is if nobody appreciated Riley. She was like an older sister to me and I treated her as such. What you describe now is selfish love, love for yourself more than the other person. That Yoichi is why you feel so much pain right now, not because you loved her more, but because you loved her less. Everyone in the guild loved her in a way that meant that when she had to leave, we understood and let her, only someone truly selfish would try and hold on to someone in that situation. You ask what I would do if I was in his position. I would do what I always do...move on. I have never had time to just sit around and mope, I had work to do at the circus, I had work to do with the guild, and now I have a guild to lead. When you have responsibility people other than yourself, you pick yourself up and move on."
"And for your last question. I refuse to even honor it with a true question since it is by nature flawed. There is no such thing as utopia, what I picture as a utopia, what you picture as a utopia, what anyone pictures, is never a utopia for everyone. I would never wish to instill me belief of perfection on another person. To ask such a questions shows how naive you truly are. When you see the shadows of the world as Riley and to a lesser extent, I have, you know there is no simple magical fix."
Durriken would take a step back after the punch and not move to make any further action against Yoichi at the moment. As he ranted though his magical aura would rise to the surface not in a pulse that would knock people back but in a slow build. It hovered just below his skin as if in his blood which was partially true. It mimicked Durriken's current emotional state. Angry but controlled, he was getting pretty sick of Yoichi or in this case his magic acting as if the world revolved around him. |

Atlas was more than a little disappointed that Yoichi seemed to take the news without so much as furrowing a brow, really. This made him narrow his eyes a little as he begrudgingly listened to the man whom began to tell him all of his woes. It made the birdman wonder if he really believed that one such as himself really cared what happened to Yoichi - whom he had only agreed to get along with so as to not trouble his master. While the man had been unwilling to listen to his own words, it seemed he wanted Atlas to listen to him, and of all the spiteful people in the world, Atlas was probably the least likely to feel the need to comply with such a self absorbed man. Not to mention, being a bit of a narcissist himself, to consider someone else self absorbed truly meant that they needed to pull their head out of their ass and get over themself.
As the man spoke, he could feel his teeth gritting, as Yoichi seemed to suggest that he had no idea what it was like to lose someone, when he had ended up being separated from Riley for years. Back when he was little more than a mere bird, and the girl his master, she had been the sun and the moon to him, he had both depended on her and guided her when she had needed it, what did this man know of her, compared to the friend that had always been by her side? He might have spoken up, as the man started some nonsense ramblings about 'utopia', but Durri stepped forth before he could, and attempted to slam a fist into the man's abdomen - rather easily earning the approval of Atlas. The birdman's expression softened, and with a soft 'thud' he sat himself on the edge of the desk, his large wings causing more papers to fall to the floor.
Durri proceeded to tell the other man off, which left Atlas in silence, though he was contently listening, as suggested by his slightly raised ears, which were perked to catch each word that the man spoke. Naturally he knew a few things about the guild master, but he had never really realized that there were so few gypsies left. He had never thought to ask, but it seemed that a large portion of them had died. Vaguely, he could recall Riley mentioning this, but the recollection went no farther than this as the conversation then turned to pointing out how selfish Yoichi was being, which Atlas fully agreed with. This was followed by Durri speaking highly of his master. The birdman practically radiated pride as he puffed up his chest a little and crossed his arms over it. Even while he felt such staggering pride, he could not help but note that Riley had no doubt picked a good person to succeed her.
Crimson eyes closed for a few moments, while he contemplated the whole 'utopia' issues that had been raised. He opened an eye slowly, peering towards the man, whose body was covered in runes, before releasing a soft huff of distaste, his feathers ruffling once more in the process. "What a weak man, to succumb to his own magic in such a short period of time, without even trying to fight it," he murmured to himself, seeming particularly offended by this issue, no doubt because of the hardships that his master was faced with every day.

A soft sigh escaped his lips as Atlas made his final comment, His own hand reaching into his pocket and pulling the ring out, Staring at it for a few moments. "What does it matter anyway...." He muttered softly. He placed the ring back in his pocket as he slowly began picking up some of the books that had been knocked off the table from before, Making no further comment that was directly towards either Atlas or Durriken. It wasn't until he grabbed a specific book that he even showed any reaction to all of this, The book was entitled *Repayment for my sins...Is to lose her*. It was vastly different to all the others, It's border wasn't a hardcover like the other books, Rather it was a 'soft back' book, Like those one might use to write about their daily lives in, A Journal of sorts. He dropped the book a few moments later and began grabbing the other ones, Grabbing one of the bags before starting to repack the books "Your right Atlas...You were always right...Yoichi was weak, He still is...He broke his promises to Riley several times over....Never realizing he was pushing her away"
As he spoke, His movements became much more sluggish and slower, His packing coming to a complete hault after just a minute or two. "He commited so many sinful acts...Hurting and betraying the trust of the one he loves...And when he finally commited the final act that drove her away for good, Only then did he realize his mistakes....In a desperate attempt to earn her back, He didn't realize it was a lost cause, When she left, He refused to give up...Desperately trying to mend his wrongs as he knew he was to blame for driving her away from him. Yet despite his efforts, He was never able to mend those wrongs" He paused for a moment, Reaching down and grabbing the book he had dropped before, Dropping it on the desk. It hit the desk with a very loud *THUD*, The book almost 4x the size of the average book in the room. "He wrote down everything he did wrong, Ways on how to try and fix it...And yet that final sin he never figured out how to mend" Chances were, Durri would be lost by how he was speaking. He was referring to what he had done in the mountains, The promise he swore he'd never break under any circumstances...But in a brief moment of...who knows what, He had smacked Riley. It didn't matter that it wasn't very hard...What mattered was the way he did it, He had smacked her before sure, But they both knew it was all in good fun and playful...
"Atlas, You're probably upset that I didn't show reaction to the ring...That is because Yoichi is the one attatched to Riley, Not his Magic. In a desperation move he turned to his magic to try and find solace, Hoping to find a way to mend that one sin and bring her back to him. But it seems she is done with him." He said as he slowly brought the ring out "In truth, Seeing this ring both angers him...And makes him weep more...But not angry at Riley....Or you....Or Durri...Or anyone else in this guild or on this planet....Rather, It makes him angry at himself for being such an idiot and driving her away from him. While he may not of been the ultimate reason she left....He is the reason for this right here, And if he isn't...Well" His voice started to die off some as he slowly placed the ring back in his pocket, His head always looking down from the start as he began packing more books. He didn't say another word to either of them as he continued packing until he had about 2 bags full "Yoichi didn't want to make the world better for himself...He wanted to make it better for everyone else, While his kind of Utopia isn't ideal for everyone, Nothing is ideal for everyone. But Yoichi was hoping to change that, To unite everyone together in a strive to ensure the human race stopped killing each other over petty things like the last sandwich, Or a television...Yoichi never thought of himself, He wanted Riley to be happy...For the entire world to be happy...but it seems in his pursuit he lost sight of what truly mattered in this world"
With that said, He placed some of the bags near the door before turning to Durri "Durriken, I apologize for everything I have said here..." He said softly, His eyes covered by his hair as he turned to Atlas "Atlas....If you will not give me a hint where Riley is...Atleast tell her something for Yoichi...Tell her how sorry he is, For everything...That he wishes he could turn back time to stop himself from every laying a hand on her and to stop himself from every breaking a single promise. Please, Tell her that he means this with all of his heart, Even if she doesn't believe it..." He turned to face the door, Grabbing it with one hand "And please...Atlas, Tell Riley that he will make this world a better place to live...That he will keep that one promise to her...That despite that he broke his promises before...That he will set in motion events that will not only ensure this world is better...But to ensure that he will never break this promise...That these events will take his life. Durriken, I will send for the rest of Yoichi's belongings in due time" With that, He opened the door and without even waiting for a response...Merely relying on the hope that Atlas would at the very least deliver his message to Riley, Exited the room. Closing the door behind him after grabbing the two bags he had packed. The book from before still laying on the desk.
